K-1 Visa Process Explained

Step 1: File Form I-129F (Petition for Alien Fiancé(e))

• The U.S. citizen petitioner files Form I-129F with USCIS.
• Include proof of relationship and intent to marry within 90 days of arrival.

Step 3: National Visa Center (NVC) Processing

• NVC assigns a case number and forwards the petition to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate nearest your fiancé(e).

• NVC notifies both parties with the next steps and instructions.

Step 5: Attend the K-1 Visa Interview

• Your fiancé(e) must bring supporting documents (passport, police certificates, proof of relationship, etc.).
• The consular officer will review your case and ask questions about your relationship.

If approved, the K-1 visa is placed inside your fiancé(e)’s passport.

Step 7: Apply for Adjustment of Status (Green Card)

After marriage:
