Form I-508 Waiver Explained

Summary

You must file Form I-508 if:

You are currently in the U.S. with diplomatic or similar immunity (such as A, G, or NATO visas).
You are applying for Adjustment of Status (Form I-485) to become a Green Card holder.
You must agree to waive your rights, privileges, exemptions as a condition for U.S. residency.

By signing Form I-508:

You give up certain diplomatic immunities and tax exemptions granted under international law.
You agree to accept the same legal obligations as other U.S. residents (including paying taxes).

This waiver does NOT affect diplomatic immunity related to criminal prosecution unless you explicitly waive it through other means.
